April at Squaw Valley, CA was pretty good, right? We had a few powder days, snowfall was around average, we were loving the fact that sunny spring skiing was here and all that comes with it. And then BOOM, like a mid-February storm, winter returned to the โ€˜Spring Skiing Capitalโ€™ in May!

In April, Squaw Valley saw 24โ€ณ of fresh snow. So far already in May they have seen 28โ€ณ, and thereโ€™s still over a week to go! Thatโ€™s double the amount of snow in May during the epic 2016/17 season and the most in recent history.

2012/13 โ€“ April โ€“ 10โ€ณ / May 0โ€ณ
2013/14 โ€“ April โ€“ 54โ€ณ / May 0โ€ณ
2014/15 โ€“ April โ€“ 35โ€ณ / May 7โ€ณ
2015/16 โ€“ April โ€“ 25โ€ณ / May 7โ€ณ
2016/17 โ€“ April โ€“ 57โ€ณ / May 14โ€ณ
2017/18 โ€“ April โ€“ 22โ€ณ / May 1โ€ณ
2018/19 โ€“ April โ€“ 24โ€ณ / May 28โ€ณ

Itโ€™s not just the snowfall totals, it feels like mid-winter again. Winter Weather Advisory and cold temperatures, thereโ€™s nowhere else weโ€™d rather be right now. Bring it on!

So far this season, Squaw Valley has seen a massive 710โ€ณ of snowfall, the most snow in North America, and is sitting on a 182โ€ณ base. The current season is third only to 2016/17 (728โ€ณ) and 2010/11 (810โ€ณ). Could a couple more storms see 2018/19 jump into second spot?
