Squaw Valley, CA Conditions Report: Powder, Chalk, & Tons of Newly Opened Terrain

Today was a surprisingly darn good day at Squaw Valley ski resort in Lake Tahoe, California.

Squaw opened The Slot (off Headwall), the Mountain Run, Squaw Creek chairlift, and the Red Dog chairlift for the first time this season today.

Right when we showed up, The Slot opened and held fantastically fun week old powder.  We did two runs and laughed a lot.

Soon thereafter, patrol opened up The Palisades.  The ‘Sades were uber chalky and fast.  The particles you’d spray up on a speed-check turn were so fine they would hang in the air forever.  Smooth, chalky, steep fun.

The mountain run was a dream.  Squaw used millions of gallons of water to make snow for over 100 straight hours last week and they did a killer job.  The mountain run is open, in, and solid.

We didn’t make it to Squaw Creek nor Red Dog, but they looked fun.

We also didn’t make it over to The Funnel off Emigrant, but it looked fun, too.

I can’t wait to get back out there tomorrow.
