Sugar Mountain Resort, NC, to Host Memorial Cup on March 2, Raising Funds for Cancer

Sugar Mountain Resort, North Carolina, will host the Richard T. Trundy Memorial Sugar Cup competition on March 2. The competition is held as a NASTAR giant slalom competition, for participants with an intermediate or above ability level. One hundred percent of the entry fees goes to the American Cancer Society in memory of Sugar Mountain’s former director of operations, Richard T. Trundy.

The giant slalom race takes place on Oma’s Meadow and has a giant slalom NASTAR format, with combined time determining the winner. Entry fee is $30 (includes NASTAR) and racer lift tickets are $35.

Sugar Mountain is located in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains at a base elevation of 4,100 feet. The resort reaches a peak elevation of  5,300 feet and offers 125 acres of skiable area across 20 trails. The resort is serviced by 1 High Speed Detachable Six Passenger Chairlift, 2 High Speed Detachable Four Passenger Chairlifts, 1 Fixed Grip Four Passenger Chairlift, 2 Fixed Grip Double Chairlifts, 2 Magic Carpets (1 – beginner area, 1 – Tubing). 14 of the slopes are lit for night skiing/snowboarding.

Course Inspection: 8:00-8:50 a.m.

Start Time: 9:00 a.m.

Racer Lift Ticket Fee: $35 employees may use their employee pass if they are competing

Family Lift Ticket Fee: $35

Race Fee (Donation): $30 (includes NASTAR)

Type: Giant Slalom NASTAR format (combined time determines the winner)
