[VIDEO] Snow in the Making – Annual Systems Test Completed at Sunday River, ME

SnowBrains |

At 6:45 a.m. this morning, Sunday River Resort in Maine completed its annual test of the snowmaking system, signaling that ski season will be here soon. Four HKD Impulse tower guns sprung to life atop the Jordan Bowl, signaling the official kick-off to the winter countdown. With this test complete, Sunday River is ready to make snow as soon as there are sustained freezing temperatures overnight at the mountain’s higher elevations. The resort typically opens on or around Halloween each year but has not set an opening date.

If you haven’t yet heard, its opening plans for this season have changed. Thanks to its brand-new snowmaking pipeline into Jordan, it has unlocked the power to triple snowmaking capacity in the area. This season, winter operations will kick off in the Jordan Bowl. While Mother Nature will have the final say, the plan is to open with top-to-bottom skiing and multiple trail choices. This will all be serviced by the eight-place Doppelmayr D-Line chairlift, the Jordan 8. Featuring heated seats, a weather-protective bubble, and a ride time of just over four and a half minutes, you’ll ride to the most open early-season terrain in style.

Dining options will be mere steps away, and guest services will also be available for those with lift tickets or season pass needs. The Guest Services Center at the South Ridge Base Lodge will still be open for those looking for assistance before heading out to Jordan.

As the cherry on top, the Jordan Hotel will offer ski-in, ski-out lodging earlier than ever before.

Last but not least, if you haven’t yet locked in your season pass for the coming season, prices will increase tomorrow, Wednesday, October 11, at midnight. Don’t miss out on fall prices while they last!
