Conditions Report Arlberg, Austria: From Full on Winter to Spring in 24 Hours This past week has been full of surprises. Sunday and Monday were gray dump days. Resulting in about 20cm of fresh pow and bluebird skies on Tuesday. In the morning it was amazing riding great snow on all aspects, good stability and fun big lines and drops. During the day temperatures were on the rise, by the afternoon snow on all aspects except pure north were starting to get heavy but it was still really fun off piste. Late afternoon it was T shirt weather literally. Wednesday it got super warm, freezing level went up to 2600m […] Conditions Report Eike Poeppelmeier | February 12, 2015 0 Comments
Epic Conditions at Arlberg, Austria This past week has been insane. The snow has just been piling up. Between digging out my car and riding powder there has been barely anytime for writing conditions reports and taking pictures. It has been quiet on the mountain the past few days as well. Especially the dump days have been super fun with fresh tracks every run. Last weekend it snowed 40cm of dry light pow on a rather hard icy surface but if you stayed away from steep terrain you could ride bottomless faceshot pow […] Conditions Report Eike Poeppelmeier | January 31, 2015 0 Comments

Sun, Fun & Powder in Obergurgl, Austria December hasn’t really delivered the goods here in Austria but at higher elevations above 2400m there is a decent base and good snow conditions to be found. This doesnโt leave many options so we headed back to Obergurgl in the รtztal one of our favorite spots to ride easy access backcountry. The terrain is gnarly and there is a ton of options available with short hikes. Thursday during the day and evening there was significant precipitation in most of western Austria. Due to the high temperatures it rained up to 2400m. Above that it snowed about a good 10cms. […] Conditions Report Eike Poeppelmeier | December 20, 2014 0 Comments
Zรผrs, Austria Conditions Report: High Altitude Pow With none of the lifts running in Zรผrs and only 3 lifts down the road in Lech, we decided for a tour from the valley (1716 m) to just below the top of the Trittkopf (2423 m), about a 600 m (about 2000 ft) vertical journey. About 2/3 up, we get a glimpse of the possibility for powder turns on the way down. It encouraging, as we encountered many rocks and bare spots up to this point. The snow was sparse and thin and we tried to find the quickest way up the mountain, since the days are quite short this time of the year here and we got a late start. Close to the top, we get a good idea where the best powder was and what line to take with the […] Conditions Report Guest Author | December 17, 2014 0 Comments
Austria Conditions Report: Light, Dry, Cold Powder in Obergurgl With most Austrian lower elevation ski resorts still closed and waiting for more snow. We headed back to Obergurgl/Hochgurgl which is one of the 4 non Glacier ski resorts that are currently open in the country. We have had some colder temps and precipitation in most parts of the Alps and it looks like winter is coming and here to stay. The forecast a mix of sun and clouds left us hopeful to get some decent visibility. With a significant snowfall at higher elevations there were 20cms of fresh pow above 2500m at all aspects of the mountain […] Conditions Report Eike Poeppelmeier | December 10, 2014 0 Comments
