Man Becomes First Ever to Snowboard All 90 Couloirs in the Legendary ‘Chuting Gallery’ Guidebook for Northern Utah’s Steepest Lines

Photos by @michaelaasheimohotography On April 28, 2020, Mike Meru became the first person ever to snowboard all 90 Northern Utah couloirs in the famous Chuting Gallery guidebook when he successfully completed the final descent of his project on the NE Couloir of the Pfeifferhorn. The two-year-long mission took him through ups and downs and valleys and mountains — quite literally. […]

VIDEO: Cody Townsend Lets Loose While Skiing Untouched Fall Lines In Nevada’s Ruby Mountains

I want to couloir hunt!!!

Cody Townsend and crew went on a mission throughout the Ruby Mountains in Nevada to search for the next Terminal Cancer type of couloir. For those who don’t know, Terminal Cancer is an extremely aesthetic couloir with beautiful tall rock walls and a consistent pitch along the whole descent, which is rather long and narrow. Townsend may not have found […]

VIDEO: “Getting Stupid in Las Lenas” – August 2015

Las lenas scary lines

Our buddy Dorian got stupid in Las Lenas in early August this summer. Some of these lines are, well, kinda silly. Very high penalty, tight, claustrophobic, scary, rocky, sketchy lines. That’s what this guy is into and that’s what Las Lenas delivers on a platter on powder days. Most the lines in this video were filmed right off the Marte chair. Yep, you just ride up a chairlift to get to these lines. Las Lenas is a couloir skier’s dream come true. If you like big open terrain, there is a bit of that, too. But couloirs are king here.

Terminating the Terrible Tahoe Season @ Carson Pass, CA

Given the absolutely dismal year we had here in Northern California, I never would have guessed that the annual mid-June climb to ski around the Carson Pass area would have the snow to pull it off. Well, after above average snowfall for May 2015, Round Top Peak (10,381 ft) and the Sisters Peaks (10,153 ft) failed to disappoint.

Dreadful Drought You Say? Skiing Lines in May! @ Sonora Pass, CA

Back in mid-May, the ski season refused to die in California despite the existence of an unprecedented drought…so the snow soldiers rolled on!

The mountain highway passes (89, 4, 108, & 120) all opened in April because of the lack of snow. As a frequent ski tourer of said passes, the usual plan of attack is to get there right when they open as snow conditions generally deteriorate […]

Triumph of Tahoe Turns @ Carson Pass, CA – 06/15/14

After one of the driest years on record and in midst of a drought…would my June turns even come to fruition? It has almost become a yearly ritual in my household. Come mid-June, to climb and ski around the Carson Pass area off of Round Top Peak at 10,381 ft and then continue up and the down the chutes of all the Sisters Peaks (10,153 ft) down to Round Top Lake[…]

Winter Lurks Amid Searing Sun @ Kirkwood – 03/16/14

With temperatures approaching 55F at the 7,800ft base of Kirkwood Mountain Resort expectations were extremely low for finding decent winter snow. Given the lackluster snow this season, coverage is actually quite good on the mountain. Areas such as Oops n Poops, Chamoix, Thunder Saddle, Hells along slackcountry zones of Corner Zone, Broadway and Boulevard all held onto a hint of winter even in the searing temps. Skiing with a 5 and 2 year old at the same time isn’t easy, but I know I’ll cherish these moments in a few years However, as soon as my wife took over after spending most of my day bent over in a snowplow […]
