Japan Today = Skiing Downtown, Backflips, Pillows, & Powder

Hakuba, Japan gave us cloudy skies, fog, light snow, wind, pillows, and great skiing today. Up high the visibility was low with a thick fog that wouldn’t budge. Just below the fog, the visibility wasn’t too terrible and the snow was superb. Happo-One ski resort currently has a 230cm base and we got about 10 centimeters of new snow during the day. It was just enough snow to cover our tracks from […]

Hakuba, Japan Conditions Report: 3 Feet of Fresh Snow Today

avy fence skiing

Happo-One ski resort in Hakuba, Japan got around 3 feet of new snow last night which made today another damn fine powder day. A cold northwest wind comes off of Asia, crosses the Sea of Japan, picks up moisture, then slams […]

Japan Avalanche Fence Powder Skiing

Nothing says Japan like avalanche fences.  These ones aren’t quite filled in enough to jump off, but just skiing through them can be a fun, cool experience.  Looks good for the camera, too.  Why do avy fences have such allure?
