Mammoth Fun Report: Nothing But Good Times on the Final Weekend This weekend is Mammoth’s final weekend of operations and things are getting rowdy out there. We saw some great costumes out there. Some were so good, we weren’t even sure if they were costumes… The skiing was stellar as well. Things were soft by 9am as it was a hot day. Clouds rolled in during the afternoon and cooled things off a bit, which really helped. The park was great until about noon thirty when it got really slushy and unpredictable with the sun/shade oscillations. The upper mountain off the gondy and Chair 23 was great all day. Soft early, then kept cool by the clouds. […] Conditions Report Miles Clark | May 24, 2014 0 Comments
California Adventure Report: Tioga Pass, Rainbow Pools, Mono Lake, Hot Springs, Water Spouts… California can shine and it very well may shine brightest in springtime. This year, we had a low snow year and that’s the yang. The yin is that Tioga Pass opened very early so in one day, you can easily experience the foothills, the white granite domes, the high mountains, the east side, and the desert. Today, I woke up in Waterford, CA and got on the road by 7:30am. From there, it was a classic California adventure: Flipping into Rainbow Pools in the foothills, gaping at Half Dome, skiing Poop Chute on Tioga Pass, gawking at […] Miles Clark | May 16, 2014 3 Comments
Scintillating Spring Skiing @ Mammoth | Conditions Report: The past two days at Mammoth ski resort in California have been spring paradise. Huge park jumps, small park jumps, skiing from 11,000 feet, slushy bumps, perfect groomers, 3,000-vertical foot runs, Glen Plake and Julia Mancuso sitings, and a lot of mountain open. Yesterday and the day before Mammoth had a stiff breeze on the upper mountain that kept things from getting too soft. It was good-for-you skiing with some great chalky snow off chair 23 all day both days. The upper mountain didn’t get too soft all day due to the wind. Shaun White Throws & Lands His New Trick in Olympic Qualifier: Frontside Double Cork 1440 Shaun White unveiled his newest trick a couple of weeks ago: a frontside double cork 1440. The trick is ridiculous and you can see how hard he’s cranking it to get it around. Shaun used it to win the second Grand Prix Halfpipe final in Mammoth last week. Shaun is kinda sorta starting to get into that robot status that Kelly Slater and other robotic/freak/alien athletes have attained. How does Shaun keep pulling this stuff out of his […] SnowBrains | January 22, 2014 1 Comment
