Mammoth, CA Conditions Report: 5″ Powder Day Today

Mammoth ski resort in California got 5″ of snow yesterday during the day. It stopped snowing in the afternoon, but Chair 23 wasn’t open yesterday and we high hopes. The Squaw crew ended up on the 1st chair on Chair 23 and we weren’t quite sure what to expect. You could tell that there was likely some reef under the new 5″ of snow, but we hoped that we’d stay off the reef beneath. Once the chair opened around 8:15am, We charged down and […]

Mammoth Report: Nuking Snow Storm Day

A storm has been forecast to hit Mammoth all week and today, it came forth with fury. The day started off with light snow in town about 8am with no wind. By the time we got up onto the mountain around noon, the snow had already piled up somewhere around 1-3″ deep and the intensity of the snow kept ratcheting up. By the time we left the mountain today at 1:30pm, it was full-on nuking on the mountain and felt a helluva lot more like mi-February than May 14th. The wind was ripping across Chair 3 at 40mph the temperature at the base of the mountain at 1:30pm was 25ºF… […]

Mammoth, CA Conditions Report: 18-Inch Powder Day

Mammoth opened at 7:30am today with 18″ of perfect, spongy, responsive, bouncy settled powder today. 7:30am, and you’re riding up a chair at a ski resort on a powder day. Felt like “Early Ups” for all. Chair 23 was the place to be. The wind was howling in the morning up top and that kept the first few turns firm, but as soon as you dropped down 30-vertical feet, it was perfect. Perfect for any time of year, let alone for May 9th. The snow was wildly responsive and ridiculously fun. There was no speed limit. You could drop if off the top, […]

12″ of Snow Overnight at Mammoth, CA

Mammoth ski resort in California is the only ski resort still open and they got 12″ of snow overnight last night. There’s 8″ of snow in town. It started snowing in town last night at about 5pm, dropped about 2 inches in town, and let off by around 8pm. We went to bed at 11pm with it still not really snowing and awoke at 6am to 8″ of snow on the deck. Mammoth is in full on Spring operations right now and will be open today from 7:30am – 1:30pm, despite the new snow. We haven’t heard any bombs yet, so we’re not sure that they’ll open Chair 23 (to the top) on time today, but we’ll see. Full ski/snow report coming this afternoon. […]
