5-Hr Rescue Saves Severely Injured Skier at Beartooth Pass, MT A 21-year-old male skier took a nasty fall on the Gardner Headwall at Beartooth Pass, Montana on Sunday. The skier was seriously injured in the fall. Red Lodge Fire Rescue/Search & Rescue and the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the scene of the fall on Sunday. The skier reportedly hit a rock while skiing and fell a long way down before landing inside a tight crevasse in the snowpack. He suffered a severe leg injury in the fall. Skier Killed in Avalanche Near Big Sky A 28-year old Bozeman man died in a small avalanche Saturday afternoon, just north of Big Sky, Montana. Jens Anderson, along with three friends, was skiing the Hanging Garden couloir on Beehive Peak. Anderson went first and triggered the slide. Trip Report: Snow-Starved Californians Find Winter in Big Sky A crew of five snow-starved stragglers from California voyaged north in search of winter. They found it at Big Sky on Wednesday in a big Montana way. Super friendly and welcoming locals, fresh cold snow, bluebird conditions, and nearly the whole mountain open stoked the travelers in a big way. Fog cleared as we rolled in, revealing a calm and clear day at Big Sky. First order of business was rolling up the tram, accessing Lone Peak, the sign-in required Big Couloir (bring your avy gear for the Big), and lots of alpine steeps. 4 Snowmobilers Survive Avalanche in Montana Four snowmobilers are happy to be alive as they found themselves caught in an avalanche last Saturday, December 28th, in the Mission Mountains located just northeast of Missoula, MT.
