2014/15 Oregon Ski Resort Opening Dates:

Mt. Bachelor, OR.

Oregon is the land of copious snowfalls, seemingly endless ski seasons, and amazing tree skiing. It’s a volcano-land whose peaks inspire as the scrape the sky. Mt. Bachelor is a freeride paradise, Mt. Hood is open 10 months a year, and Mt. Ashland is the steepest ski resort per acerage in the USA. It doesn’t hurt that Bend, Oregon (Mt. Bachelor’s town) has the highest brewery per capita in the USA as well. Beer is good. Locally brewed beer is even better. […]

Mt. Bachelor ski resort is forecasted to receive 21″ of snow between now and Wednesday. Bachelor has had a heckuva year this year. Bachelor is one of the spring skiing capitals of North America and one of the reasons they are is because of their late season dumps. Bachelor has gotten 363″ of snow this year. Top 10 North American Snow Totals This Past Week:

There were some ridiculous snow totals in North America last week. We feel that it’s very necessary to report and celebrate these silly snow totals. It’s been a rough year for so many locales and now it’s time to party. Mt. Bachelor got nuked on. Tahoe went from zero to hero. Colorado went off. Washington is getting into it now. We know we likely missed someone in here (wolf creeks’ website has been down). Let us know who we missed […]

Mt. Bachelor Conditions Report 12/19/13 Photo & Video

Upon arriving to Mt. Bachelor at 9:30am, it seemed like the day would be a partly cloudy and beautiful day with glimpses of Broken Top and the Three Sisters through the wispy clouds.  An hour into skiing, however, the weather turned for the worse socking the mountain into a blistery white out. The white out was only affecting the skiing […]

7th Annual Dirksen Derby @ Mt. Bachelor, OR

dirksen derby

It’s only mid December and one of the best snowboarding events of the season has come and gone, the Dirksen Derby. Hosted by Mt Bachelor in Bend Oregon, the Dirksen Derby was created by snowboarding pro Josh Dirksen to help raise money for Tyler Eklund. Tyler became paralyzed in a snowboarding accident in 2007 while practicing for a competition. The Derby raises thousands of dollars and has become a rally call to get Tyler back on the mountain with a little helps from some friends. Now in its 7th season the Derby has grown to be the biggest yet and needed to cap registration at 500 riders. […]

They had a limited opening this week with one terrain park open but tomorrow they’ll bust out the big guns. Ski lifts Pine Marten, Skyliner, Sunrise, & Sunrise Accelerator will be open starting tomorrow. We’ve spent the last couple weeks moving snow from the parking lots and placing it in stategic areas around the mountain. Thanks to the hard-work of our Mountain Operations department, we are pleased to announced that the Pine Marten, Skyliner, Sunrise and Sunshine Accelerator lifts will open […]

How a Snowflake Forms: 2 Simple Steps…

How a snowflake forms is a very interesting, intricate process that we all know almost nothing about. This lack of snowflake genesis knowledge is a shame considering how important snow is to all of our lives and our lives as skiers and riders especially. Below, I’ve spelled out the most simple steps in the development of a snowflake in the simplest terms possible. The birth of every snowflake starts with a tiny microscopic […]

Mt. Bachelor Final Weekend Video | Powder, Tricks of Cliffs, Pond Skimming, & The Biggest Wall Ride Around

Closing weekend at Mt. Bachelor featured over 20 inches of new snow as well as the Sammy Carlson Invitational. Bachelor had a great year ending up with 363” of snow, 186 days of operation, and 98 days of having the Summit open.  Not bad for a year that ended up pretty miserable in most everywhere outside of the PNW. Tanner […]

Sammy Carlson Invitational @ Mt. Bachelor | Professional Photo Tour & Wrap-Up

The 2nd annual Sammy Carlson invitation at Mt. Bachelor this past Sunday was genius in its simplicity. One jump.  One wall ride.  No podium.  No medals. One huge wall-ride = 25-feet tall, 80-feet wide. “The wall was even sicker than last year, even though I didn’t think [creating a better wallride] was possible. This year, with the new PVC coping up […]

Mt. Bachelor Conditions Report | Snowy, Sunny, Slushy, & Fun | Video & Photo Tour

Oregon never ceases to amaze me.  And I’m not talking about the luscious forests and rugged volcanoes, no, it’s the diversity of rotten weather on any given day that really stupefies me. One normally associates spring skiing with cloudless skies and beating sun rays composed of nice, mid 50 degree weather slushing up all that previously slippery ice into a […]
