Mt Baker New Year’s Conditions Report: 10″ on the Way Early in the week we had some beautiful (somewhat rare) blue bird days that remained cold so the powder from the prior week stuck around and welcomed skiers and riders to the New Year right. Lots of hikers were visible from chair 8 on the Shuksan Arm earning their turns in the untouched pow. The Canyon and the natural half pipe were open which made for some added fun. It warmed up later in the week but then started snowing and it’s currently dumping. Fingers crossed the freezing levels don’t get too low next week. Here’s to a happy and healthy new year with lots of pow! […] Conditions Report Naomi VanPatten | January 4, 2015 0 Comments

Mt. Baker: Greed is Good As the famous line from the 1987 Oscar winning film Wall Street stated, โGreed, for a lack of a better word, is goodโ and when it comes to all the ski areas in North America, there is none greedier than the Mt. Baker located in the state of Washington. Yet unlike the real life Wall Street, Mt. Bakerโs greed does not come in the form of money, but in the form of snowfall, and there is plenty of it. You wonโt see any fancy hotels or restaurants here. This is a mom and pop ski area with no lodging within 30 minutes, but what youโll get is a ski area that consistently records the highest average snowfall of any mountains […] Michael Etezadi | December 2, 2014 0 Comments
Mt. Baker Opening Day Update: “We’re Almost There…” After a warm front slammed Mt. Baker with a rainstorm earlier this week, operators had to cancel their initial plans of a Thanksgiving opening. With a 30 inch base at the start of the week, the Mt. Baker crew felt confident in to open Thursday. Starting Monday, the storm caused them to lose about 2 feet of snow over three days. Today’s snow report out of Mt. Baker states they’ve got 9 inches of fresh snow in the last 24 hours. The weather finally turned on Friday, but they’re looking to have between a 24-30 inch base before they can open. Gwyn Howat, Operations Manager at the mountain, reported yesterday from the slopes.
