Catedral Ski Resort in Bariloche, Argentina OPENS for the Season Today Catedral ski resort in Bariloche, Argentina got a solid snowstorm yesterday that was enough to open them up for the season today. They were hoping to be open on June 20th, but had to wait a bit longer for the snow to fill in enough to make things right. Another reason they felt confident about opening today was the forecast. The forecast is showing a foot of new snow in the next 2 days. Catedral is our favorite place to ski in South America and we’ll be reporting at least weekly from this area all summer. 2015 Opening Dates for South American Ski Resorts: Ski season has begun in South America! Corralco ski resort in Chile opened for the season last week to solid early season coverage. Right now, the southern ski resorts are looking good snow-wise and all planning to open within the month. Many of the northern ski resorts, especially the ones in Chile are completely devoid of snow right now. When you look at the NOAA map above, find the green circle in southwestern South America. That green circle indicates a forecast of wetter than average conditions this southern winter in the southern Andes mountains.
