Bariloche, Argentina Conditions Report: 3-Feet of Fresh Snow & Literally No One Out Catedral ski resort is reporting 50cms (20″) in the past two days. We climbed up today and measured over 3-feet of new snow in spots. The snow came with big wind that was strong enough to shut the ski resort for most of the day today. This afternoon, they were able to get the lower mountain open but the mid and upper mountains remained closed. Yes, we as skiers and riders overuse the term “no one out”. But today, we really mean it. Since the mountain was shutdown, I hiked up to […] Conditions Report Miles Clark | August 2, 2015 2 Comments
Portillo, Chile Conditions Report: Chalky, Variable & a Whole lot of Fun Despite a severe lack of snow, and a opening date that kept being pushed back, Portillo is skiing great right now. Two weeks ago Portillo saw almost 6.5 feet, allowing the resort to open for the first time all season. Since then snow has been scarce, but what is left is holding up well. The groomers are fast, and certain […] Conditions Report Jesse Cassidy | July 29, 2015 0 Comments
El Colorado, Chile Conditions Report: Fast, Rocky and Firm Two weeks ago El Colorado and most of Central Chile received their first significant snowfall of the season, finally allowing the resorts to open after a long wait. Nearly two weeks later though without snow and El Colorado and neighboring Valle Nevada and La Parva are in dire need of snow once more. Over the weekend El Colorado was fast and icy, half the time it was a slide for life rather than actually making turns. None the less, skiing […] Conditions Report Jesse Cassidy | July 27, 2015 1 Comment
Portillo, Chile Conditions Report: Flipping Good The snow is really fun right now. The groomers are in great shape. Garganta is a blast. It’s nice and chalky and really edge-able. You have to step over some rocks to get into it, but after that it’s great. Roca Jack and Caracara have good coverage but the north facing aspects are very sun affected from the warm temperatures lately. Their is some really fun skiing to be had off the traverse on the south facing aspects. You can still find some soft nice snow. The Lake Run is also skiing really well. I talked to some people who went heli skiing on Saturday and they said it was “awesome!” […] Conditions Report Andrew Rumph | July 27, 2015 0 Comments
First Snow of the Year for South America | Photo Tour: Are you starting to think about the South American winter season? South America is. So much that she just experienced her first snow of the season in the southern latitudes. JACKSON HOLE = EPIC POW Jackson Hole is having an epic season, and it just started! With multiple feet of snow over the last week on top on an already deep base, locals and visitors alike basked in the best snow Jackson has seen so far this season! Early last week conditions in the resort were interesting. Lack of snow and warm temps played there role in creating a mixed bag of conditions around all elevations and aspects. Faster and Higher in Las Leรฑas with Adri Millan This is a bit of a highlight reel from the past season in Las Leรฑas with Catalan freerider Adri Millan. It has some seriously sick lines in it – keep an eye out for Millan blasting through the choke of the Banana Couloir at approximately 1,000 miles per hour at 0:30. Only 10 months till summer skiing starts again! Lee Lyon | November 11, 2014 0 Comments
2014 South America Recap: Nevados de Chillan and Las Leรฑas ย I spent two months skiing in South America this summer, and it was fun! My trip took me to Nevados de Chillan for two weeks, Las Leรฑas for a month, and the Cordon del Plata for a week. Iโve been coming down here for nine years now, which makes me feel kind of old, but also very fortunate. The majority of these photos were taken by Moritz Morlok. Thanks Boyscout! I arrived in Santiago in the middle of August. Typically I head straight to Las Leรฑas, but things were looking a bit dry and warm there, so I decided to go south to Nevados de Chillan instead. I’ve been hearing good things about Nevados in recent years, and it seems to be the […] Backcountry Lee Lyon | October 19, 2014 3 Comments
