Lake Tahoe, CA Backcountry Report: Incredibly Good Snow Up High I headed out into the backcountry with my good buddy and fellow guide, Jules Hanna. Jules knows the Tahoe backcountry 1,000% better than me. He told me where to go and I went. Sierra Crest. He was right. Dry, recrystallized, sugary, dreamy powder. You had to get high to get it. You had to walk on dirt, bushes, rocks to […] Conditions Report Miles Clark | December 6, 2017 0 Comments

Tahoe Is Losing Access To It’s Best Backcountry Skiing Terrain: Parking for access to many of the best backcountry skiing areas in Lake Tahoe has been closed due to the current California Highway 89 improvement project. This improvement project is aimed at reducing sediment runoff into Lake Tahoe and in doing so they closed an untold number of unpaved, roadside parking spots. “What is happening is some of the pullouts people use to park for backcountry skiing are being eliminated,” said Bob Rowen, chairman of the Snowlands Network, which advocates on behalf human powered, winter recreation Industry News SnowBrains | October 1, 2015 4 Comments
Tahoe Backcountry Breakdown: 2.5 Feet of Fresh to Heat Well, we haven’t gotten the big dump that we need yet this year, but the few small storms that have broken through the RRR (ridiculously resilient ridge) have made for some great powder skiing. We took advantage of the prime conditions and checked out some of Tahoe’s classic terrain north of the lake. After a patchy approach full of bush whacking, creek crossing, and boulder hopping we were rewarded with some of the best […] Conditions Report Keegan Kliman | March 8, 2015 0 Comments
Tahoe Backcountry Update: Good Snow Up High Tahoe is beyond magical. We are blessed to call this place home. Major perk: Winter is always on in Tahoe from November to May, it’s just a matter of how deep and how high one is willing to go. This season has been a sleeper up high and deep. Since the season kicked off, we have enjoyed over 24 powder days. Yes, multiple powder days in Tahoe this year. What truly defines a powder day? If you enjoy fast, steep, smooth, no ice turns with blower snow engulfing you on each turn…then yes, I guess it’s a powder day.
