Mt. Hood, OR, Backcountry Report: Snowy Celebration Report from May 1, 2024 Starting May with a foot of fresh snow is one of the reasons I cherish living in the Pacific Northwest. I treated myself to a late start, skinning from the Timberline Lodge, Oregon, up toward Crater Rock around 8:00 a.m. Within ten minutes of leaving the parking lot, the clouds had cleared, the sun was […] Conditions Report Nicky Blumm | May 2, 2024 0 Comments

They left early in the morning and started to hike before sunrise, only to hear a faint meow in the distance. “It was 4:30 am, at around 1200 meters, when we heard a cat in the dark forest. Great Salt Lake even got in on the action firing off a few convective showers of the fabled “lake effect”. Reason enough to get out early; time for a dawn patrol. Upper Little Cottonwood came […] Trip Report John Solder | December 14, 2018 0 Comments

Sun, Bootpacks, and Bears | Jake’s Peak Tour 3/13/14 After convincing my friend Reza to ditch his plans for a southerly approach to Jake’s peak – accessed from Emerald Bay and most likely requiring the use of ice-axes and crampons – we settled for the main route. The main route to Jake’s peak can be accessed from Highway 89 just south of the headquarters for D. L. Bliss State Park. We left the car at a little past 8AM and started boot hiking straight up the face as there was not enough snow in the lower elevations. After an hour of boot hiking, which included some scary rock scrambling and lots of bushwhacking, we finally made it to […] Conditions Report Sara K | March 17, 2014 5 Comments
Mickael Bimboes Sends Rocky Cliff HUGE in Chamonix French rider Mickael Bimboes sending it deep during the Chamonix stop. Talk about butterfly inducing, holy sh*t drops, that shark pit at the bottom is looking VERY mean. If it werent for the slight backslap early in his run, he probably would have taken home the win for this stop. Instead, his run was only good enough for 3rd. SnowBrains | March 15, 2014 1 Comment
