Since that initial foot, northern Vermont has been repeatedly blanketed by fast moving fronts generating up slope snow. Jay Peak, VT Has Gotten More Snow Than Any Ski Resort in UT, WA, OR, CA, ID, or MT Jay Peak in Vermont has gotten 223″ of snow this winter. Alta has gotten 193″ of snow this winter. Both are respectable numbers, but it’s crazy to see that Vermont is getting more snow than Utah, right? It’s been a crazy year in the west with the West Coast and Utah experiencing high temperatures, low snowfall, and more rain than anyone would like to admit. VT Backcountry Report: East Coast Powder The past month has been fantastic in New England, as storm after storm after lake effect snow after up slope pow event has blanketed the region. Here in Vermont we have received more than 80 inches since the beginning of January, and it’s been cold nearly every day. For those scoring at home, that’s more than six feet. As I type this it’s snowing again, with a foot or more forecast for the Green Mountains between now and Tuesday. This should get us close to 100 inches in the space of more or less a month (!). East Coast Kick Off: Opening Week at Killington The day has finally come: east coast skiers and riders were welcomed to Killington Resort in Vermont to kick off the 2014-2015 season beginning Monday, November 3rd. Opening day was offered exclusively to season pass holders, but Killington opened to the general public on Tuesday, November 4th. Opening on October 25th for the 2013-14 season, Killington is known throughout the east as the first resort to open each year, offering skiers and riders that first sweet taste of powder. I was lucky enough to begin my riding season at Killington on Saturday. College students flocked to the resort for the season’s first opening weekend in Vermont.
