Who doesn’t want clean air and water? Not only do they make life more enjoyable, but they are vital to long-term health.

U.S. World and News Reports used data from 2021 to rank states based on air and water quality, as well as pollution levels. Pollution was analyzed based on air and water emissions from industry and utilities. The data came from using information from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). These pollutants included carbon monoxide, lead, nitrogen oxides, ground-level ozone, particle pollution (also called “particulate matter”), and sulfur oxides.

Shout out to the Northeast for having some of the cleanest air with Vermont and New Hampshire at the top of the list.

An interesting observation is although California falls on this list, some of its cities rank among the most polluted in America.

Also, many of the states on this list have readily available skiing and snowboarding opportunities. If you value clean air and time on the snow, these are the places to be.
