I see a trend starting here, but… yesterday at Treble Cone gave us some of the best turns of the season so far. After skiing so many days at Cardrona, it was nice to get some proper long and steep runs that really got the legs going. There was a bit of cloud as we got up to the mountain in the morning, but by 10am, it had mostly burned off and turned into a beautiful bluebird day.

Treble Cone was reporting 3cm of snow overnight, but it was definitely #deepinspots in the Motatapu Chutes. With the temps warming, I didn’t have super high expectations, but hot dam, was it good. People who ski with me know that I will take an extra chair lap over a  hike every time, but I surpassed my hiking quota for the season a few times over; totally worth it.

There was loads of fun to be had in the Saddle basin as well. Gully runs with endless airs for dayyyyyyyys. I would have been happy lapping the Saddle all day, so the Chutes were just gravy. I got into some Home Basin laps at the end of the day and the snow definitely started to turn due to the heat. There were some springy/slushy sections and some parts had already started to freeze over again in the shade and become chunky.

Looks like it’ll be another couple of bluebird days before another top up on Friday. Have at it on Saturday, weekend warriors!
