Squaw: Upper Mountain Closed Due to Snow Making Pipe Burst

The tough times continue at Squaw, with the Upper Mountain shut down yet again this year.  This time the closure was due to a snow making pipe burst, causing the upper mountain to be shut down the past two days and likely leaving it closed again tomorrow.  And the forecast continues to look dry for Tahoe, with no change in sight.  Simply sunny skies and 50 degree temps.

People still turned out for MLK weekend, and the conditions where Squaw has been able to blow snow are feeling like mid winter.  The snow making guns are almost buried in their own snow, and the ribbons of death are starting to feel a little less like death and more like the usual thing.

It would certainly be fantastic if January would end in a two foot storm, but unfortunately at the moment things are looking bleak.

  1. On Tuesday at Alpine I met numerous people who bought a ticket at Squaw
and left Squaw when they found out the top was closed and showed up at Alpine instead.
Alpine only had 1500 skiers instead of their normal 6500. No lines anywhere. at Alpine

This pipe also blew out during the Christmas holidays taking out an adjacent sewer pipe. This turned part of
the mountain run brown. Wont comment on what was brown !

  2. Sewer pipe failure again, but they are saying snow making to cover their asses. Need to get placer co. inspectors on site and inform EPA of possible contamination of water, e.g. Lake Cushing.

Remember this if there ever is a Cushing Classic this spring, eewwww.

More lies squaw’s management telling to cover their asses, Mr. Livak??

KSL inherited bad infrastructure. Current sewer issues are due to code violations when initially installed. Should have been Schedule 90 concrete pipe, instead was Schedule 40, and should have proper infill and depth.

Mr. Livak, do you really want to have a visit by the Environmental Protection Agency again. Remember how it went last time??

Please be more truthful about things.

    Thank you.

    1. I accidentally clicked on the thumbs up for your post but I really don’t like it. No need for more hate in this world.

      1. Not hating sweetheart, just point out truths. Sorry you,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

“CAN’T HANDLE THE TRUTH!” Now go put your head back in the sand and pray for snow.
