The Park City Planning Commission cast a unanimous vote at City Hall on Wednesday in favor of Vail building an “interconnect gondola” to link Park City Mountain Resort to The Canyons in Utah.  Once these two ski resorts are connected, they’ll become the largest ski resort in the USA at around 7,500 acres.

The gondola is planned to be completed before the beginning of the 2015/16 ski season.

Vail plans to spend $50 million improving Park City and the Canyons this year as they mush these two resorts into one.

The “interconnect gondola” will hold eight passengers and travel from the base of the Silverlode lift at Park City to the Flatiron lift at the Canyons ski resort.  The gondola will be 7,650-feet long.  There will be an unloading point at the to of Pine Cone Ridge.

Work on the new gondola will begin as soon as ski season ends.  The gondola is expected to be completed by October 2015.
