High winds currently battering Colorado caused an occupied chairlift to fall from the haul rope at Breckenridge, CO, today.ย The person involved was not injured and declined medical care.
โAt approximately 10:35 am today, a chair dislodged from the haul rope of the Peak 8 SuperConnect as it was reaching the top terminal. One guest was on the chair at the time and fell approximately 13 feet. Ski patrol responded immediately. No injuries were reported and the guest declined further care. We place the highest value on the safety of our guests and the Peak 8 SuperConnect will remain closed for the rest of the day. We are still actively gathering information and the lift will undergo a full inspection prior to reopening to the public.”
– Breckenridge Resort statement
The video embedded above shows the aftermath with the chair already on the ground and another occupied chair swaying in the wind.
@liftblog My sister just witnessed the chair directly in front of her fall off the haul rope during a wind hold on the peak 8 superconnect at breck. The chair was close to the top terminal and fell about 20 feet. ski patrol was already there and the guy riding the chair is ok.

Next time you complain when your favorite chair is on wind hold, remember this is why!
Dude who falls off the lift and tells the red coats to go help someone who needs it can ski with me anytime.
