Owners of White Pine Ski Resort, located outside of Pinedale, WY have put the ski area up for sale due to financial issues made, in part, due to theย devastating fireย that destroyed the main lodge on July 12, 2019.ย The destruction of the resort’s main lodge took a devastating toll on the resort, both financially and emotionally for its employees,ย Buckrail.comย reports.
The resort has been open for skiing this winter season even without the lodge, however, it may be the last season that the resort is open under its current ownership by the Blackburn family.ย The resort has had a rocky history, operating on and off for 80 years and switching ownership several times during its lifespan. The Blackburn family purchased the resort in 2014 but are now putting it up for sale, hoping that an interested party will purchase it and continue operations for the resort’s 81st season next winter.
White Pine Ski Resort operates on federal land and any final decision regarding a change of ownership would have to be approved by the Bridger-Teton National Forest.ย ย Employees of the ski resort along with the community of Pinedale, WY are optimistic that the sale of the resort will go smoothly and that their mountain will be open for many more seasons to come.
