With Feet of Snow on the Way, Could Mammoth Mountain, CA Open Early?

SnowBrains |

California’s Sierra Nevada mountains have already been blanketed in snow following several storms over the last couple of weeks or so. But none of them compare to the atmospheric river that will dump multiple feet of snow on the area.

You can read more about that storm here: SnowBrains Forecast: Atmospheric River to Bring Feet of Snow to Kirkwood, Tahoe, and Mammoth Through Tuesday.

In light of this, Mammoth Mountain teased yesterday that they have some exciting updates to share with us today (10/21).

It’s starting to look really good out there and we can’t wait to get back on snow. Stay tuned for some exciting updates tomorrow.

Mammoth Mountain

What could that possibly be? Opening early? Maybe as early as Halloween?!

If the resort opens before November, it will be the earliest opening since the 2004/5 season on 20th October. (Mammoth opened on 16th October in 2009, for three days, before closing again. They then opened for the season on 8th November.)

Opening days the last five years have been:

  • 2020 – 13th November
  • 2019 – 9th November
  • 2018 – 10th November
  • 2017 – 9th November
  • 2016 – 10th November
