Good news coming out of Chile, today.

Nevados de Chillan ski resort in Chile will reopen for 3 days this weekend after receiving a large snowfall this week.  Nevados de Chillan closed on September 4th due to a lack of snow after only 7 weeks of operation.

They were open from July 16th until September 4th this season.

Nevados de Chillan will reopen this weekend for Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.

Their bike park will also be open this weekend.

We refer to Nevados de Chillan as the Mt. Baker of the southern hemisphere.  This place usually gets buried in snow.  Not this year…

This year they opened 3 weeks later than scheduled and they closed 4 weeks earlier then scheduled.  Their 14 week season was cut in half.

Nevados de Chillan was only open 7 weeks this year…

Nevados de Chillan opened on July 16th and they closed on September 4th.

Nevados de Chillan planned on opening for the season on June 20th and they planned on closing on October 2nd.

Nevados de Chillan made headlines this year when the volcano the ski resorts sits on was erupting and the ski resort was 100% open.

To their credit, when they closed on September 4th, they said if they got a big snowfall, they’d reopen.  They got a big snowfall and they are reopening.  Albeit for only 3 days.

Estimados Amigos y Amigas,

Durante las últimas semanas, la caída de nieve en la zona cordillerana se ha vuelto intermitente, afectando directamente la calidad de nuestras pistas, destinadas al deporte blanco y al disfrute de nuestros esquiadores. Las condiciones climáticas desfavorecedoras de este año nos han llevado a la decisión de cerrar anticipadamente esta temporada 2016, formalmente desde hoy domingo 4 de septiembre.

Destacamos que siempre ha sido nuestra prioridad entregar un servicio de calidad a nuestros esquiadores y las condiciones actuales no lo permiten. Nevados de Chillán está dispuesto a reabrir su temporada 2016, si las condiciones climáticas son favorecedoras, considerando cantidad y calidad de la nieve que permita entregar un servicio adecuado, y así nuestra comunidad esquiadora pueda seguir disfrutando del deporte blanco.

Estaremos informando cambios de fechas o posible reapertura del centro de ski, a través de nuestro sitio web oficial www.NevadosdeChillan.com.

Ademas reiteramos que nuestro centro se encuentra abierto todo el año, con actividades para toda la familia y prontamente se dispondrá una fecha de apertura a la temporada 2016-2017 de nuestro Bike Park. Contamos con 3 centros termales (Hotel Nevados, Valle Hermoso y Parque de Aguas), hotel de montaña, 36 departamentos, 8 piscinas con aguas termales, tres spas, cafeterías y completos programas de entretención que incluyen según temporada: Canopy, Trekking, Canyoning, Cabalgatas, entre otros.
