Skier Dies in Avalanche in Valle Nevado, Chile Backcountry

A 26-year old backcountry skier was killed in an avalanche on Saturday just outside the boundaries of Valle Nevado ski resort in Chile.  He was with 4 other skiers who all survived with only minor injuries.

The deceased skier was buried in beneath over 6 feet of snow.

Rescue workers located the body of the skier using avalanche dogs after being informed of the avalanche buy the surviving skiers.

It is unknown at this time if these skiers had any backcountry travel experience nor if they were carrying avalanche equipment.

This is very sad news and we send our deepest condolences to everyone involved & affected by this tragedy.
