Given the opportunity, many of us wouldn’t say no to owning a cool ski poster. You can often get them for free at ski swaps, or maybe they are complimentary with a gear purchase.
But would you pay $29,000 for one?
That is exactly what some vintage posters of luxury Swiss ski resorts went for at an auction earlier this month. The auction, called The Ski Sale at Lyon & Turnbull, featured 81 rare posters from famous locations like St. Moritz, Chamonix, and Val d’Isere. The original lithographic posters were crafted after the construction of the resorts and captured the glamour and allure of the skiing era nostalgia.
The auction had art for all budgets, but the top original lots fetched the highest prices. Collections were from the 1920s to the 1960s and presented collectors with colorful, decorative, and striking art designs, perfect for winter sports lovers looking to decorate their homes, offices, or cabins.
The results of the auction that took place on January 11 can be seen here. Below are some of the top pieces that sold with the winning bid price.

- Winter Sports in the Vosges by Roger Broders -$8,030 (£6,300)
Posters from the post-war years were more affordable but were equally colorful, striking, and representative of the eras for which they were made.
No doubt many of us have seen similar pieces of art, or at least copies of them, in our skiing adventures throughout the years. If you own one, it could be worth a pretty penny, and if you have the chance to buy one at good price, it could be a good investment.
