Avalanche Threat and Extreme Weather Alert Leads to Evacuation Orders for June Lake and Long Valley, CA

The Mono County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) has issued an EXTREME weather alert for Mono County, CA. Heavy, wet snow has increased the threat of avalanches. As such, the OEM has issued evacuation orders for June Lake and Long Valley.

June Lake

Due to the extreme avalanche threat, Mono County Office of Emergency Management is issuing an evacuation order to the residents on the South side of Highway 158 from Fire Station #1/Big Rock Resort to Reverse Creek Campground and Dream Mountain Drive in June Lake. A Temporary Evacuation Point has been set up at the June Lake Community Center.

Long Valley

Due to the extreme avalanche threat, Mono County Office of Emergency Management is issuing an evacuation order to the residents of Long Valley at the North end of Lake Crowley Drive. A Temporary Evacuation Point has been set up at the Crowley Lake Community Center.

MONO COUNTY ALERT: Message from Mono County Emergency Alerts

The Mono County Office of Emergency Management is issuing an EXTREME weather alert for Mono County. Heavy, wet snow has increased the threat of avalanche.

This includes mountain slides, mud slides, as well as building roof slides. Travel in, near, or below avalanche terrain is not recommended.

Very dangerous avalanche conditions are expected to continue through Tuesday afternoon (1/10). Use extreme caution.

Furthermore, 166 homes in the Bridgeport Area of Mono County are currently without electricity as heavy snow has downed power lines. Due to road closures, crews cannot access the area to repair the lines.
