Authorities say an 11-year-old boy from Illinois has died after hitting a tree while skiing at an Idaho resort last week.

Cassia County Undersheriff George Warrell told The Times-News that the boy from Chatham was skiing with his family at the Pomerelle Mountain Resort near Albion, Idaho when he collided with the tree at 6:30 pm on Thursday.

“It was a tragic accident,” Warrell said.

Other skiers who were emergency medical technicians and paramedics immediately attempted life-saving medical procedures on the child, but he died at the scene, Warrell added. The boy’s family was visiting the area, and he was with his mother when the accident occurred.
