For the second consecutive season, Chilean resort El Colorado has announced that they will be closing early due to weather conditions. The lifts will stop turning on September 8th.

Historically, Chilean resorts predict opening right through to October, but it is increasingly becoming the norm that they don’t even make it through mid-September.

El Colorado has reported 10″ of snowfall this winter, the last snow was 21st August, and the base depth peaked at 31″. They have 4 out of 23 lifts open, and 10 of 50 km of pistes open.

In what has been a terrible snow year for the central Andes, Ski Arpa, a catskiing resort in Chile, announced at the beginning of August that due to lack of snow they will not be opening this winter. And Los Puquios, across the border in Argentina, brought an end to their winter season early too.
