According to Kriesbote, an unmanned maintenance basket collided with an empty cable car after a chain hoist broke at Zugspitze ski resort in Germany today.
No one was injured in the accident.
Zugspitze is the highest mountain in Germany at 9,717′.
Zugspitze ski areas 10 lifts are located on the Zugspitze mountain.
The accident occurred during a routine maintenance operation.
The broken chain caused a chain reaction that led to the maintenance basket colliding with the cable car.
This incident is under investigation.
The cable car manufacturer Garaventa, the cableway supervisor, and the experts at Rotec have been notified and involved in the investigation.
The Zugspitze cable car will remain out of service until further notice.
The cog railway and the glacier railway to Zugspitzgipfel continue to be in regular operation.
This accident in Germany comes right on the heels of a fire that destroyed the cable car at Grand Montets in Chamonix, France on Tuesday.
