Freeskier and Hip-Hop Artist Jon McMurray Killed in Skydiving Accident

An Instagram post yesterday by Canadian pro-skier Rory Bushfield informed the world of the tragic news of the death of Jon McMurray.

Although very little is known, it appears Jon, 29, also a pro-skier and a hip-hop artist died in a skydiving accident. He lived in Los Angeles, CA with his wife Cali James.

According to the CBC Jon was being filmed for a music video while wing-walking when he fell and died on Saturday.  His body was found in a field in Westwold, B.C. at about 7pm PT.

The sun is not as bright today as it was yesterday when it was shinning on my homies last moments. Jon james Mcmurray, my very best, dearest and oldest friend passed yesterday evening in a skydive accident. He was living his ultimate dream, free and full. May he Rest In Peace. I’m gonna miss him so much.

Known for combining freeskiing and extreme stunts, Jon McMurray was the first action sports personality to successfully land a backflip transferring from rail to rail. He began his professional athlete career during high school, and competed and filmed internationally throughout North America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.

McMurray (Jon James Aka. McFee) began rapping and producing hip-hop music while on tour in the action sports industry after breaking his back. He now performs under the name Jon James, his legal first and middle name. His recent album ‘Rex Leo’ was released 2016.

Rory Wayne Bushfield, 35, lost his wife Sarah Burke, 4 times Winter X-Games gold medalist, in 2010 when she died while skiing in Utah. He started the Sarah Burke Foundation in her memory.
