Kirkwood ski resort in Lake Tahoe, CA will be opening for the 2014/15 winter season tomorrow, December 6th, 2014.  They got 36″ of new snow on the summit in the past week.  They got 15″ at the base in the past week.

Kirkwood will have just chair 5 open, but that’s quite enough to get South Lake fired up.

Kirkwood averages 500″ of snow per year.  Which is nice.

Kirkwood today.

KIRKWOOD PRESS RELEASE:

Hola mis amigos,

It’s with a massive smile on my face and the #StokeLevel @11 that, I am proud to announce the opening of our mountain as of tomorrow morning @9am! Saturday December 6th
It has been quite the wild ride here over the past few weeks with the snow levels flexing and the anticipation growing… Our Mtn. teams have been working around the clock to get us open and we are ready for your return…

Let’s level set the expectations that you should have… First and foremost we will not have access to any beginner terrain or beginner lessons at this time. We will be opening Solitude our Chair 5 with access to Intermediate terrain… I would not, AGAIN would not bring my beginner bro/girlfriend/cousin/uncle/dad or sister up and send them up Solitude (Chair 5) for a first time experience, you’ll loose #3StokeLevel points and the experience for your friend, well, let’s just say it would not be cool…

We will determine what trails we will grant access to after our Mtn. team & Patrol access this afternoon… As I posted earlier today, the coverage on the upper mountain is quite incredible we have around 36” / 71cm depending on the aspect and pitch… With the current forecast & unsettled weather we will be looking at opening more terrain daily…

All services will be located in the Village Mountain Plaza, K-Bar, Monte Wolfe’s, The Wall Bar, Tickets, Rental & Retail… Ski & Ride School will be operating out of the E:K offices located across from the Lodge… Again, we will have no beginner terrain accessible and will not be hosting beginner lessons… If you are an intermediate skier we will have both group & private lessons available…

In conclusion here, what a nail bitter, I think I lost 5lbs just in hitting the refresh button on the Doppler & temps throughout the past week… Thank you all for your patience and kind thoughts and comments…

#StokedToHaveYouAllBack, We’ve miss you all

Stay tuned & Stay Thirsty my friends,
Coop
