Lake Louise, one of Alberta’s premier tourist destinations, was briefly closed on Sunday afternoon due to concerns about overcrowding, according to Parks Canada.

The temporary closure prevented visitors from accessing the lake unless they were residents or had a nearby hotel reservation.

“Until further notice, RCMP and Parks Canada are advising that there will be no entering Lake Louise, unless a resident or with a hotel reservation, due to overcrowding. All highways remain open.”

Comments on social media claimed, “It’s been insanely busy all weekend” and “It was the busiest I’ve ever seen.”

During this period, 511 Alberta issued a traffic advisory on Highway 1 in both directions near Fairview Road. The advisory, however, was lifted around 6:58 p.m., with the RCMP confirming the restoration of access.

Visitors planning future trips to Lake Louise are advised to stay updated on potential access restrictions.
