Loveland Ski Area, CO, announced yesterday that it would not be opening this week. Despite two weeks of snowmaking and 16” of fresh snow, the resort says the base area still needs more coverage.

Loveland has received 16” in the past week. The snowguns are going and the snowcats are pushing snow. Unfortunately, we still have more snow to make on the bottom section of Homerun and at the base area of Chet’s Dream. Loveland Ski Area will not open this week. Loveland is very optimistic that we’ll open sometime next week.

Loveland Ski Area typically opens with an entire top-to-bottom run made up of Catwalk, Mambo, and Home Run trails. The opening day run is 1,000 vertical feet and over a mile in length. Loveland’s snowmakers typically take about two weeks to cover the opening day run from tree to tree with an 18-inch base. Last season Loveland opened on October 30th.

Loveland’s neighbor Arapahoe Basin opened on Sunday, October 23rd, and will open more terrain tomorrow. Keystone Resort, CO, opens today (11/28/22), and Winter Park Resort, CO, which also received 16” from this latest storm, has announced it will be opening on Monday, October 31st.
