We just called Mad River Glen, VT and the guy on the phone said:

“10-20 inches today, dude.  It’s crazy.”

Mad River Glen had to close due to a lack of snow last week, they opened for the weekend, then had to close again this week.

The 10-20″ of snow they got yesterday and today will get them open with much improved conditions and they should be able to stay open all week and hopefully all winter long.

And it’s crazy cold up there today.  0ºF at the top of the hill this afternoon.

Mad River Glen has soul.

MAD RIVER GLEN PRESS RELEASE:

Localized Lake Effect Storm Re-opens MRG!

10-20″ (SERIOUSLY) of fluffy “Champlain Powder” has been delivered overnight and throughout the day and MRG is back in business on Friday! Oh and by the way… still DUMPING and doesn’t seem to be letting up!  We have received upwards of 20″ of new snow this week so far and not a moment too soon!  It’s absolutely blower, the kind of “Champlain Powder” we sometimes get when the lake is unfrozen and the wind hits just right. Weird thing is that there is very little new snow just a few hundred feet in elevation down from the base area – very localized storm – very cool indeed!

The skiing on Friday should be some of the best of the season (yeah, we know) with deep pockets of freshies everywhere. The cats are out diligently tacking down as much of that golden fluff as they possibly can so the groomers should be magnificent tomorrow. Not sure of the exact trail count at this point but we certainly expect it to be nearly everything. (The open trails noted in the current trail report are merely a projection and there may be some rotation or closures as the day progresses). On Friday we plan to spin The Single, the Sunnyside Double, the Practice Slope and the Callie’s Corner  Handle Tow from 9 AM to 4 PM accessing nearly 100% of our legendary trails. On Saturday and for the rest of the President’s Week Holiday we plan to spin all 5 of our lifts. Stay tuned to this report for the latest updates as this storm doesn’t seem to be showing any signs of stopping!

Since we have had such a tough start to our season and our skiers have been so incredibly patient we want to makeMidweek and Value Passes valid this weekend. Thanks for your resolve and lets all hope that we have finally turned the corner on the ski season and we can look forward to the best half a season ever!
