Mammoth Mountain in California saw 18-26″ of new snow from the latest storm. Today was the first bluebird day.
The snow up high was wind packed and smooth and not exactly soft but damn fun.
Actually, Jamie told me today after skiing: “Strangely enough, that was on of my top 5 favorite days of the year.”
It was a great day for going fast and making huge turns.
Avalanche control kept the upper mountain closed until about 11:30am. There were some huge avalanche control work avalanches at Mammoth today.
Once they opened it, it was a feeding frenzy. We lapped the upper mountain hard until the snow was nice and tracked at about 1:30pm.
Such a fun day.
Sunny, cold, building winds through the day, but not too bad.
Mammoth is sitting on a 190-330″ snowpack and we believe it. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Mammoth so fat with snow…
It’s going to be a great spring up here in Mammoth and they’re scheduled to be open daily until at least the 4th of July.
