NOAA: California Snowpack Update – March 15th

How is CA doing for snow this season? The statewide snow water equivalent is 93% of normal as of March 15 and 90% of the April 1 average. The average snow water equivalent is 25.4 inches. The average snow water equivalent is highest in the northern part of the state and lowest in the southern part.

The Northern Sierra/Trinity is above normal with 103% of normal as of March 15 and 101 % of April 1 average. The Central Sierra has 95% of normal as of March 15 and 92% of April 1 average. Most of the storms took a more northerly track, so amounts are lower for the Southern Sierra with 80% of normal as of March 15 and 77% of April 1 average. The Sierra snow pack and quite a bit of green in the state can be seen on the MODIS Satellite Image from March 15.” – NOAA today
