After a few inches of snowfall last week, winter weather continues this week with 21 inches of snow falling in the past 24 hours on the peaks of Palisades Tahoe, CA. This system moved in with wet and heavy snow, great for building a base in the early season.
Temperatures are expected to drop Tuesday through Thursday with more precipitation expected. The anticipated colder temperatures will provide more accumulation and great conditions for those who are ready to ski and ride.
This storm is showing no signs of slowing down, with up to 23 inches of snowfall throughout Monday and 20 to 26 inches overnight into Tuesday. Although less substantial, even more snow will fall Wednesday and Thursday (an additional 14 to 24 inches).
Palisades Tahoe has had two lifts with access to limited beginner terrain open to the public daily since Nov. 26, but with this new snowfall, teams are working hard to open up as much new terrain as possible. They are aiming to open more lifts for skiing and riding towards the end of this week and will announce more details once their team has been able to assess the mountain. Guests can stay up to date on lift and terrain status on their website and the Palisades Tahoe App.
It is likely this storm will present challenging travel conditions, power outages, and operational delays. Those in the Tahoe region are urged to stay up to date on road conditions and chain control requirements using the CalTrans App.
