We’ve all heard the reports of the pounding California is taking right now, with record amounts of snow falling in February contributing to some of the best conditions in years, if not ever. But for those of us not there to experience this epic almost once-in-a-lifetime event, it’s hard to comprehend and get your head around what that amount of snow actually looks like.

Well, check out the photo above from Sierra-at-Tahoe, of the snowbank in their C-Lot carpark. That’s a lot of snow!

Tony, stood in front of the bank, is 5’10” tall. How many Tonys tall is that snowbank? 4? 5?

Sierra-at-Tahoe, the closest major ski area to the Bay area, currently has a snowfall total of 489″ (top ten in North America), and a base of 175″ (4th deepest in North America).

  1. Imagine driving on Highway 50, which is the road that feeds Sierra, with snowbanks that high on both sides of the road. I’ve driven through conditions like that on 50 trying to get to Heavenly and it is a little intimidating to say the least.
