Stio, Arc’Teryx, Exum Mountain Guides, and Snow King Mountain, WY have partnered to raise funds for spring grooming at the mountain to allow uphill skiing to continue. A post on their Facebook page announced their fundraising intentions, and also announced that they had received an exception from the County and Teton District Health Officer to allow “personal uphill recreation as well as grooming” as this “activity does not pose an increased public health risk and may benefit the community in having an outdoor activity to participate in.”

In these somber times, we hope to get people outdoors for some exercise and a bit of fun.

You can support grooming efforts by making a contribution at snowkingmountain.com. Each person who makes a contribution will have their email entered into a raffle for thousands of dollars worth of prizes from Stio, Arc’Teryx, Black Crowes, Snow King Mountain, Cowboy Coffee, Medicine Wheel Wellness, and others.

Your contributions will put some corduroy down on the King. For each $1000 raised Snow King Mountain will groom one day and throw in a day if we reach $3000. If we get to $6000 we will groom twice a week for a month. We will update the status of this fundraiser on our Facebook page and provide information on grooming days.

Snow King Mountain has received an exception from the County and Teton District Health Officer to allow “personal uphill recreation as well as grooming” as this “activity does not pose an increased public health risk and may benefit the community in having an outdoor activity to participate in.” However, it is critical that individuals who come to skin the King do not congregate in groups of 10 or more at the base or anywhere on the mountain. Users should understand that if this regulation is violated, or the situation changes with COVID-19, local officials may prevent all uphill travel on the mountain.

As of yesterday, the fund had raised over $3,000 towards grooming efforts, with the goal to reach $6,000 for grooming twice a week. The resort did issue the following warning though:

Attention Uphill Traveller’s, please make sure you are not congregating in groups on the mountain or at the base. We all need to practice social distancing if we want uphill travel to continue until the snow is gone. We highly encourage you to get outside and enjoy the King and do not want a small group to spoil it for everyone. On a positive note, we are now over $3000 and have 4 days of grooming covered, thanks to all who have donated!
