June 21st marks the official start of winter for the southern hemisphere, and although resorts in New Zealand and Australia are already operating, this weekend marks the start of the South American ski season.
Although, many resorts that had planned to open this weekend have postponed their opening day another week due to lack of snow. Don’t worry though, there is snow in the forecast starting early next week.
Estimated opening dates for South American resorts:
Chapelco, Argentina – 28th June
Las Leñas, Argentina – 29th June
Catedral, Argentina- 1st July
El Colorado, Chile – 20th June
Nevados de Chillán, Chile – 21st June
La Parva, Chile – 21st June (unconfirmed – awaiting snow!)
Corralco, Chile – 22nd June
Valle Nevado, Chile – 28th June
Portillo, Chile – 29th June
