You’d be forgiven for thinking it was mid-winter at Steamboat Resort in Colorado.

63″ of fresh snow fell during the month, breaking the all-time October record, and allowing the resort to begin snowmaking on the 24th, the earliest in their history.

With a scheduled opening day of 23rd November, crews are eager to begin building the base for the upcoming season. The ski area plans to use about 100 snowmaking guns on the mountain focusing efforts on trails around the top of the Christie Peak Express. Those include Sitz, Jess’ Cut Off, Vogue, Short Cut, Stampede and All Out.

Many resorts across Colorado received record October snowfalls, with many of them opening as early as this week. Wolf Creek opened yesterday, Monarch and Eldora open today and Winter Park will open tomorrow for the earliest opening in their 80-year history.
