Stevens Pass Ski Resort, Washington, will not be opening this Friday, December 1, and will be postponing their opening day until further notice. The delay comes from a lack of snow coverage across the mountain. The snow cover is not sufficient to ensure a safe experience for resort guests.

“We were hoping to start the countdown to opening day, but unfortunately, we need more snow to have the necessary coverage to open. Yes, this means our target opening day of this Friday will be delayed. We’re bummed too – but we promise, we’ll open the moment we’re able and will keep you posted as soon as we have an update.”

If you still want to get out there, the resort will be spinning its rope tow in the base area, where skiers and snowboarders can enjoy a rail session, with a portion of the proceeds being donated to the EpicPromise Foundation. The event will take place this Saturday, December 2, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and tickets will be $20 and available for purchase at the ticket window. If you have a season pass, you do not need to purchase a ticket. If you are a passholder, the resort recommends you stop by the pass office in the Granite Peaks Lodge to go pick up your pass. If you haven’t purchased a season pass, December 3 is the last day they will be available for sale.

Although the slow start to the season is a bummer, there is a lot of hope in the upcoming forecast. Open snow is calling for over 2 feet of snow within the next five days, which should help build the resort’s base and drastically improve coverage across the mountain. Uphill travel is currently allowed, but the resort recommends that you call their uphill travel phone number to get the most up-to-date information before skinning or hiking up the mountain. The phone number is 206-812-7847.
