Skier Dies in Avalanche in Chile Today After Heavy Snowfall The Cronica Chillan newpaper is reporting that a 23-year old Viรฑa del Mar, Chile named Luciano Cueneo Olhaberry died today from injuries suffered in an avalanche in the backcountry near the Nevados de Chillan ski resort in Chile. Luciano was skiing out of bounds with a foreigner who was reportedly also caught in the avalanche but escaped uninjured and was able to notify rescuers. 3 Spanish Climbers Die in Avalanche in Kyrgyzstan Today Three very young Spanish climbers died in an avalanche in Kyrgyzstan today. These climbers were aged 18, 24, and 24 and were all in Kyrgyzstan climbing for a month with the Federation of Catalan Excursionists. The climbers were climbing a rock face near the summit of 12,700-foot Akun-Too when an avalanche ripped them off the rock. Their bodies have been recovered and are being returned to Spain.
