At least 18 are dead and dozens injured in the avalanche set off by the massive magnitude-7.8 earthquake that has left at least 3,300 dead in Nepal and neighboring countries on Saturday. More than 200 climbers have been rescued around Mount Everest. Many mountaineers have taken to social media to share their experiences. Skier Killed in Norwegian Avalanche

Search and rescue crews found a body on Tuesday in a mountainous area of southern Norway.The missing skier, a man from Valdres in his 30’s, failed to return from a trek in the mountains near Vågå in Oppland County. Officials later confirmed he’d been killed by the fall caused by an avalanche. Officials believe the avalanche crashed down from the north side of the summit of the peak called Tjønnholstinden at Valdresflya in the mountains of Jotunheimen. Austrian Man Survives 10 Hour Avalanche Burial

An Austrian man survived being buried under a massive avalanche in Gschnitztal, Tyrol, Austria for ten hours on Sunday. His companion, a 27-year-old German man, tragically died at the scene. A rescue team was remarkably able to dig out the 23-year-old Austrian alive and conscious after he had been buried under 5 feet of snow. Weekend Death Toll Rises to 5 in Alps | 28th Avy Death in France

A male skier in his 50s was killed in an avalanche on February 22nd, 2015 in the French Alps. He was skiing with three other skiers when the avalanche struck. All four were caught in the avalanche. Two of the surviving skiers were severely injured in the slide and one woman was uninjured. The avalanche occurred at 1:30pm at an elevation of 1,700m (5,577-feet) in the Taillefer range of the French alps near the town of Val d’Isere about 25 miles south of Grenoble. This was the 28th avalanche death in France this winter. There have been 25 avalanche deaths in Switzerland this year. There have been over 80 avalanche deaths in Europe this year. […]
