Wasatch Dispatch: Code Blue | After the Big Storm After a long steady Wasatch storm cycle, and a lot of greybirdย skiing, the clouds finally cleared and the powder was waiting to be harvested under a deep blue sky. Fire up boys, we have a CODE BLUEBIRD! Multiple storms added up to multiple feet of new snow. But the best was saved for last, 2 feet of cold Utah blower […] Backcountry John Solder | February 15, 2019 0 Comments
Copper Mountain, CO Conditions Report: Cold, Blower, Only Getting Better Copper reported 7″ of freshย this morning, and 9″ by the end of the day.ย In places it skied like a lot more than that. It dumped early, easing up in the afternoon, and light was flat.ย Temps started around 10ยบF and fell towards a bitter 1ยบF. The cold storm meant blower conditions. Resolution skied great early and was bumped out quickly. Mountain […] Conditions Report Alex Hamilton | January 5, 2017 0 Comments
Revelstoke, B.C. Conditions Report: Moist Westerly The wind usuallyย blows from the southwest in Revelstoke.ย Sometimes that wind gets moist. Really moist. And it starts dumping white stuff out of the sky for threeย days or something. It’s called a moist westerly.ย Moist, and westerly. Coming from the great, big, hyper-moist Pacific Ocean. In Revelstoke,ย it so happens that this solidified moisture gets so deep that it gets all over your […] Conditions Report Sergei Poljak | December 28, 2016 0 Comments
Sun Valley, Idaho Conditions Report: Blower Base Making Pow Monday 12/19: Even though it has been a few days since the last storm in Sun Valley, which occurred on Thursday and Friday, there are still plenty of stashes for those willing to venture into the woods.ย The temps have remained cold which kept the snow nice and light as when it came down, but there isn’t much of a base […] Dylan Cautela | December 20, 2016 0 Comments
Snow Suffocation Death at Whistler’s Opening Weekend An unfortunate tragedy has befallen Whistler Blackcomb resort on their opening weekend.ย A 27-year old snowboarder perished on Saturday due to suffocation in the deep snow of an off-piste run. Alta Condition Report – ALTA DELIVERS! Better late than never. With only 5 days till closing we received our biggest single storm of the season! With weird springtime dynamics, lake effect, and a shallow storm, total snowfall amounts ranged from 20″ – 39″ with most places inbounds at Alta on the high end! The storm came in hot with a good ol’ fashioned dust storm and a 25 degree temperature drop in the matter of a couple hours. Then the guns turned on. All systems go. We had lake effect, orographic enhancement, a touch of daytime heating enhancement and a good dose of Alta magic. Conditions Report Aaron Rice | April 16, 2015 1 Comment
Alta Conditions Report – 81″ of Snow in Ten Days! Alta ended 2014 on a high note! A series of storms dropped 81″ of successively lighter snow, leaving us with some epic (and I don’t use this term lightly) powder skiing. The storms lifted and we are now in a period of high pressure, but there is still great snow out there and with cold temps the skiing is still fantastic. I won’t be to wordy with this post, and I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves. Enjoy! Midstorm riding conditions were as deep as they get. Bluebird Wasatch powder skiing the way it should […] Conditions Report Aaron Rice | January 1, 2015 1 Comment
Stowe, VT Conditions Report: Lake-Effect Snow Rocks Vermont The skiing at Stowe this morning was deep! About 8 inches of fresh on a few inches from the past few days. The snow was light and fluffy. In honesty there was a bit of crust underneath the new snow, but it was still the best turns on the East coast of the season. We fell asleep on Tuesday night with the plan to do a quick dawn patrol at Stowe. The forecast was for 1-3 inches and our hopes were pretty low, but we wanted to get out and see the sunrise and move our legs. We woke up this morning at 5:30 am to 3 inches at the house. We got excited and pulled into the dark and unplowed Stowe parking lot 15 minutes later. […] Conditions Report Aaron Rice | November 20, 2014 0 Comments
