Treble Cone, NZ Closing Day: The Best in the Southern Hemisphere

Treble Cone closed for the season this Sunday and as usual ended the winter in style. Treble Cone closing day is well known around New Zealand as being the best party of the season and TC fans literally fly across the country for it.  The weather wasn’t very cooperative, with poor visibility from some low-lying cloud  for most of the day […]

Epic Closing Day at Alta!

Alta is known for deep powder. But we are also known for throwing down one of the best closing days around. It started with the 53rd Annual Frank World Classic at high Noon under the Wildcat chairlift. There were numerous hot dogs, snowballs, and flips thrown! There was much dumping em out! With hundreds of people there were good times had by all. Here’s the photo and video tour, much of it courtesy […]

CLOSING DATES for Alpine Meadows, CA & Squaw Valley, CA:

SnowBrains just heard via the grapevine that Alpine Meadows will be closing on April 5th and Squaw Valley will be closing on April 12th. It’s been a low snow year in Tahoe, it’s 70ºF in Tahoe City right now and the forecast is for nothing but sun and heat. Squaw and Alpine hung on as long as they could. Actually, staying open into April on possibly the lowest snow year on record in very respectable. The past 4 days at Squaw and Alpine have been a blast with 7″ of new snow, great storm skiing, some upper mountain pow skiing, then a huckfest at Squaw yesterday. […]

Sugar Bowl’s Closing Day Report Was a Good One

Sugar Bowl had its final day of operations this winter today and it was a good one. Party cloudy skies kept the sun off the snow and kept things fast. There was enough sun to slush the mountain up but not make it sticky. The wind was blowing a bit as well keeping the snow and riders cool. I’m no bump skier but the bumps were great today. Fall line bump skiing laps off the Lincoln chair all day had us spent by 2pm. There was a great musician playing on the deck with a BBQ and good beers […]

Beartooth Basin, Summer Only Ski Resort, Is CLOSED for the Season

It’s true: Beartooth Basin summer only ski resort is closed for the season. Kinda sad, but still great that we have a summer only ski resort in North America. Beartooth Basin, MT/WY opened this year on May 24th, 2014 and they stayed open until July 6th, 2014. That means they were open for an incredible 45 days this year. Well, a few less we suppose, as that big snowstorm they got in June shut down the road for a couple days. That said, that’s rad that Beartooth had a few powder days this summer. Beartooth also got about 150% of normal snowfall during the 2013/14 winter giving them a solid base to work with. […]

Alta, UT Conditions Report: Closing Day, May 4th

Alta has a 101″ base right now. They’ve gotten 432″ of snow this season and the place is still looking good. They had a great closing day and this video proves it. If you haven’t heard of it, Alta threw the 2nd annual Frank ski competition in the end of April. This is clearly the coolest ski competition on the planet. It’s basically a chance to get weird in Utah. Naked skiing, crazy tricks, costumes, and general weirdness. This is a ski party not to be missed. […]

VIDEO: Hard Charging on Alpine Meadow’s Closing Day

Most people enjoyed the casual groomers, beers, bands, and sun of Alpine Meadow’s closing weekend.  And why not?  It was the perfect weekend for that type of gluttonous behavior.  It’s what we did. Some didn’t see it that way.  Some saw is as their last chance to hike, ski hard, and jump off rocks. Little did us commoners know, it […]

Closing Day @ Squaw Valley 2012/13 | Chimney Sweep & Center Line Go Down!

That’s correct snow-starved humans.  Squaw Valley USA is officially closed.  But, Squaw closed in true Squaw fashion with 2 of its gnarliest lines going down on its final day. Yes, Chimney Sweep & Center Line were skied and stomped.  It’s kind of hard to believe that they were skied in these conditions, but it shows the level of skiing/riding still […]
