Thanks to Mammoth, California nearly always has one of the earliest openings of any state in the union.  Mammoth is also often one of the last ski resorts open in the US of A. Mammoth got some fun dustings of snow this past week.  Enough to get the stoke going strong. Most major California ski resorts should be opening up […]

2015 Opening Dates for South American Ski Resorts:

Portillo, Chile, southern hemisphere

Ski season has begun in South America! Corralco ski resort in Chile opened for the season last week to solid early season coverage. Right now, the southern ski resorts are looking good snow-wise and all planning to open within the month. Many of the northern ski resorts, especially the ones in Chile are completely devoid of snow right now. These still dry ski resorts do not have opening dates listed yet as they are waiting for their first sticking snowfalls to arrive. If you’re planning your trip to South America soon, you might want to start leaning towards the south and think about calling up SASS Argentina who does ski/snowboard trips in […]

2014/15 Washington State Ski Resort Opening Dates:

Washington state gets the most snow in North America and maybe the world. Mt. Baker ski resort holds the world record for most snow with over 1,100 inches of snow in 1997/98. Ski resorts in Washington state open late due to their bulging snowpacks. Crystal Mountain ski resort is known to open for the season before Thanksgiving and stay open into July. Not bad. Crystal Mountain and Stevens Pass both average over 450″ of snow per year. Mt. Baker ski resort averages 655″ of snow per year. If you like snow, you’ll like Washington […]

2014/15 Oregon Ski Resort Opening Dates:

Mt. Bachelor, OR.

Oregon is the land of copious snowfalls, seemingly endless ski seasons, and amazing tree skiing. It’s a volcano-land whose peaks inspire as the scrape the sky. Mt. Bachelor is a freeride paradise, Mt. Hood is open 10 months a year, and Mt. Ashland is the steepest ski resort per acerage in the USA. It doesn’t hurt that Bend, Oregon (Mt. Bachelor’s town) has the highest brewery per capita in the USA as well. Beer is good. Locally brewed beer is even better. […]

2014/15 Montana Ski Resort Opening Dates:

bridger bowl ridge

Montana. I mean, it means ‘mountain’ in Spanish, what more can you want. We have a state in the USA named ‘Mountain’. What’s not to love about that. Clearly, the place must have some gorgeous mountains and some great skiing. It does. Last year, Montana had a record year with Big Sky getting 460″ of snow. Blower snow, that is. Montana is kind of a different universe. It’s certainly the our only state that feels a bit like a different country. Maybe not that exotic of a different country. Kinda just feels like Canada, but that’s enough. You can head to Montana and get a truly unique experience and ski some of the best mountains and snow […]

2014/15 Colorado Ski Resort Opening Dates:

Aspen colorado deep snow snowboard

Colorado always has the earliest ski resort openings in the USA. This year will not be an exception. It’ll be either Loveland or Arapahoe Basin within the next week or two. Central Colorado just got 10″ of new snow up high and temperatures have been cool enough for snow making for the past week or so. Colorado ski resorts regularly reach over 12,000-feet and this high elevation and the cold that comes with it is key in creating early season skiing and sometimes great early season skiing. Colorado ski resorts generally average around 300″ of snow. Last year, they had a spectacular winter with a few resorts receiving over 400″ of snow (Loveland […]
