Monster Storm Slamming South America Now | Ski Resort Snow Total & Photo Tour:

portillo powder chile

Chile and Argentina are getting hammered right now. Some weather men are saying this may be the largest storm to hit central Chile in the past 5 years. Originally, central Chile had 19-feet of snow forecast in 4 days this week. It likely won’t add up that high, but it’s still gonna be deep and already is. It’s starting to appear that El Nino is kicking in South America and this very well may be the year to get yourself down to Chile & Argentina and start taking advantage of it. SASS Global Travel‘s flagship SASS Argentina program is poised and ready to get you down here and stuff you into the big powder […]

VIDEO: Ripping “Toilet Bowl” at Portillo, Chile Last Week

Toilet Bowl at Portillo, Chile

editors note: Portillo ski resort in Chile has some of the best terrain in Chile. SnowBrains reporter Andrew Rumph is locked in there for the season. Right now, a monster storm is headed their way. Portillo got 25-inches of snow last night has 4.2-Feet (56″) of snow forecast for just today. This video is from Friday July 31, 2015 in Ski Portillo, Chile. The Lower Toilet Bowl is one of my favorite lines here in Ski Portillo. I came into the last air a little too far to the right and clipped some rocks just […]

Top 10 Snowfall Totals in the USA:

Beaver Creek, CO on March 4th, 2015. photo: @jodallas09

It’s been a snowy year in the USA if you’ve been in the right spots – namely Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, and the East Coast. The usually dominating snow totals of the West Coast are non-existent on this list this year. A miracle on the West Coast is still possible, but it’s starting to get late. In the last week, the Rockies had some epic snowfalls boosting their snow totals to some very respectable numbers. Make sure to get out there and harvest some of the goods this spring. All the snow totals listed below were found on the resorts’ websites on March 8th, 2015 at 11:59pm. […]

Lake Tahoe Snowfall Totals and Photos Today: Up to 22″ of Snow

The “Severe” storm that was supposed to clobber Tahoe last night is widely being considered a dud. The main issue was that the wind shifted to coming from the South, which didn’t give it the power to get over the Pacific Crest and into the Tahoe Basin. West of the crest did very well with 12-16 inches being reported. The East side of the Tahoe Basin did poorly with only 3-5 inches being reported. At 4am today, it was snowing down to 4,000-feet and still raining in Truckee… In Tahoe City this […]

Lake Tahoe Snowfall Totals & Photos: Up to 23″ of New Snow

boreal yesterday

Lake Tahoe just got it’s first real storm of the 2014/15 winter season. It was a wet one with snow levels hovering around 7,500-feet for the most part. We had a Winter Storm Warning from 4pm Tuesday until 4am today. Sugar Bowl is the big winner again with 23″ of snow from this storm and shockingly, Kirkwood got the lowest snowfall numbers. Kirkwood got mostly rain and only ended up with 8 inches from this storm. We skied Squaw yesterday and it was raining to the top. Looks like today will be about the same as yesterday. We were soaked after about 2 hours of skiing. […]

Lake Tahoe = 2nd Worst Snow Year on Record | 44% of Average

Lake Tahoe, California has recorded three low snow winters in a row. This winter, was the second worst snow year in recorded history. For skiers and snowboarders, it’s been a brutal experience. In 2011/12, Donner Summit, CA saw 322″ of snow putting that year at 81% of average, which doesn’t sound so bad. It was the fact that it didn’t snow at all until January 20th that made that season […]

Top 10 North American Snow Totals This Past Week:

There were some ridiculous snow totals in North America last week. We feel that it’s very necessary to report and celebrate these silly snow totals. It’s been a rough year for so many locales and now it’s time to party. Mt. Bachelor got nuked on. Tahoe went from zero to hero. Colorado went off. Washington is getting into it now. We know we likely missed someone in here (wolf creeks’ website has been down). Let us know who we missed […]

Tahoe Storm Delivers: 18” Storm Total @ Kirkwood

Kirkwood ski resort faired the best from this storm. Their base elevation of 7,800-feet had a lot to do with that. Kirkwood got 8” of new snow out of this storm at the base and 18” of new snow up top. Kirkwood has ruled out opening on Friday (they were talking about it yesterday), but hopes to open as soon as they can after Friday. Snowmaking equipment at Kirkwood is cranking out snow as we write this. […]

Squaw Valley 2012/13 Season Break Down | 386” of Snow, 156 Ski Days, 132” in Dec.

Who Got the Most Snow in 2012/13?

We are just about at the end of snowfall season, so it makes sense to see who got the most snow this year in North America.  The 2012/13 ski season was thin in spots and thick in spots.  Too many of us ended up on the thin spots.  The Pacific Northwest once again showed their ability to get snow […]
